The Sixth Great Extinction

It’s happening right now, all around you. And unless we start doing something about it, something serious and meaningful on a global scale, it’s going to get a lot worse.

The eminent biologist E.O. Wilson thinks that we could loose 1/2 of the species on Earth by the end of the century. Unfortunately, he’s one of those geniuses that is almost always right. In many ways this is unthinkable, but it’s the crisis we’re facing, and the crisis we need to address.

We’re loosing species so fast, we’re discovering them just in time to realize they’re about to go extinct.  The rate at which we’re loosing species is 100, maybe even 1000 times the normal rate. The scale of our loss is comparable to the last big extinction event – the one that killed off the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.

To learn more about the crisis, check out this article and beautiful slide show of just a few of the species we’ve lost recently.
