Marine Conservation Institute collaborated with partner photographer Brian Skerry to help create the cover story of the February issue of National Geographic Magazine: Saving Our Oceans. The article highlights some of the ocean’s most pristine places — like Cortes Bank seamount off the coast of California — and is brought to life with stunning photos taken by Brian Skerry and the informative storytelling of Cynthia Barnett.
Hand-in-hand with the magazine’s feature came Brian Skerry’s National Geographic film Sea of Hope, staring Marine Conservation Institute’s board member Dr. Sylvia Earle. The film follows Skerry and Earle on an under-the-sea adventure to some of the most beautiful places on Earth, ending with a visit to Midway Atoll and a discussion about the ocean with former President Barack Obama. Check out the trailer to see for yourself!
The team at Marine Conservation Institute was thrilled to work with our friends at National Geographic to help bring attention to important ocean places! We continue to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Cortes Bank and other special seamount habitats as a member organization of the California Seamount Coalition!
